Auto Insurance in Ohio

Ohio requires that you be financially responsible for any costs that may occur due to incidents with your vehicle. The best way to fulfill this responsibility is by having an auto insurance policy that meets Ohio’s insurance requirements.

Ohio Auto Insurance Requirements

Liability Insurance

The most common way to comply with Ohio’s financial responsibility law is by carrying liability auto insurance to help pay for injuries or property damage resulting from an auto accident that you cause.
Your auto insurance policy must have at least the following minimums:

Optional Auto Insurance

While you are only required to carry liability auto insurance in Ohio, you may want to consider purchasing other types of auto insurance coverages to help further protect you financially.
Most OH auto insurance companies offer the following optional types of coverage:

NOTE: While state law does not require you to carry collision and comprehensive coverages, you may have to purchase both coverage types as part of the loan or lease agreement on your auto.

Ohio Proof of Insurance

When registering your auto in Ohio, you must submit a signed statement that you have and will continue to have OH proof of insurance while operating your vehicle.
You must provide your proof of insurance:

If you are unable to provide proof of insurance to an officer during a traffic stop, you will be given a notice that will explain options you may take in order to prove that you had insurance at the time of your citation in order to avoid consequences of an insurance violation.

Random Insurance Verification

As a way of assuring that all vehicles are insured, the Bureau of Motor Vehicles randomly selects approximately 5% of registered vehicle owners to submit proof of insurance to the BMV.
If you are among the randomly selected, you will be sent a notice by mail from the BMV. You must submit your proof of insurance within 21 days of the mailing date on your notice.
For any questions regarding the Random Selection Program, call the BMV at (877) 315-6605.

Fines and Penalties

When proof of insurance is required, failure to show or provide proof of insurance will lead to penalties that include:

Homeowners insurance is a form of property insurance designed to protect an individual's home against damages to the house itself, or to possessions in the home. Homeowners insurance also provides liability coverage against accidents in the home or on the property.

Whether you’re a home or condo owner, a renter, or a landlord, we will work with you to find a home insurance policy that fits your needs. We specialize in making it easy to choose the insurance coverage that gives you the best value for the best price.

Renters Insurance

Renters Insurance is a form of property insurance that provides coverage for a policy holder's belongings and liability within a rental property. Renter's insurance applies to persons renting or subletting a single family home, apartment, duplex, condo, studio, loft or townhome. The policy protects against losses to the tenant's personal property within the rented property. In addition, a renter's insurance policy protects against losses resulting from liability claims, such as injuries occurring on the premises that are not due to a structural problem with the property (in this case, the owner's - not renter's - policy would apply). Increasingly, proof of renter's insurance is required by many landlords. Personal belongings within a rented property are typically not covered under the owner's or landlord's property insurance.

Condo Insurance

Condominium insurance covers the interior walls, fixtures, personal property, and liability inside a condominium. It is distinct from the master policy held by a condo homeowners association, which covers common areas such as the roof and exterior walls that are jointly owned by condo owners.

Landlord Insurance

As a rental property owner, you're no stranger to the challenges that come with being a landlord. No two rental properties are the same, and the insurance coverage needed for your real estate investments is just as unique. While you don't need to worry about insuring the personal possessions of your tenant, there are other coverages to consider, including coverage of the building and liability.  If the rental property includes appliances such as a refrigerator, stove, washer and driver, etc., personal property coverage for these items is something you may also want to consider.

We understand that no two contracting companies are the same, and we won’t try to sell you a cookie-cutter insurance policy to protect your business. As a contractor, you may focus on a single aspect such as plumbing or electrical maintenance, or you may provide a wide menu of services. Our agents will take the time to learn about you and your business. Then we’ll recommend contractors insurance solutions to meet your business needs. As your company grows and changes, we’ll provide rate and coverage reviews to help you protect your bottom line.

Commercial Auto Insurance

Commercial auto insurance covers a diverse combination of vehicle types including cars, trucks, drivers, as well as other types of motorized equipment. Your policy should be tailored to how you're using your commercial vehicles for your business. We can find the right coverage for your needs.

Bonds Insurance

A Surety Bond ensures contract completion in the event of contractor default. A project owner (called an obligee) seeks a contractor (called a principal) to fulfill a contract. The contractor obtains a surety bond from a surety company. If the contractor defaults, the surety company is obligated to find another contractor to complete the contract or compensate the project owner for the financial loss incurred.

There are four types of surety bonds:

  1. Bid Bond: Ensures the bidder on a contract will enter into the contract and furnish the required payment and performance bonds if awarded the contract.
  2. Payment Bond: Ensures suppliers and subcontractors are paid for work performed under the contract.
  3. Performance Bond: Ensures the contract will be completed in accordance with the terms and conditions of the contract.
  4. Ancillary Bond: Ensures requirements integral to the contract, but not directly performance related, are performed.

Family farms, corporate farms, ranches, wineries, dairies, and other small farm businesses make up a vibrant and significant part of the Ohio economy. These businesses are often family owned or closely-held entities. Significant loss of equipment, structures, crops or livestock can devastate the business and end generations of investment.

These risks can be controlled and insured. Agriculture has some unique aspects, but a good local agent or broker that thoroughly understands the business can guide the owner to appropriate coverage with specialty insurers that specialize in business insurance for agriculture.

Having the right life insurance is pivotal in planning for the future of you and your loved ones. Life insurance can help you fulfill promises you’ve made your family when you are gone. Don’t leave the future of you and your loved ones to chance. Dannenhauer Insurance Agency can help you find the right life insurance coverage for you, and help ensure that your policy continually meets your needs.

What You Need to Know

Dannenhauer Insurance Agency can help you select the best life insurance coverage for your needs. There are several different types of life insurance products available – the most common include:

Term Life Insurance

Term life insurance provides protection for a specified period of time. If you do not currently have life insurance, term can be a good place to start. It’s generally less expensive than permanent (whole) life insurance, and is available in varying time periods with fixed premiums from a one year (annual renewable term) to 20-year (level term) period.
Furthermore, term life insurance is sometimes convertible to permanent coverage, providing you with flexibility as your needs change.

Whole Life Insurance

Whole life insurance is a form of permanent life insurance that remains in force for your entire lifetime, provided premiums are paid as specified in the policy. Whole life insurance can be an investment opportunity, as many whole life insurance policies also build cash value over time.

Universal Life Insurance

Universal life is a form of permanent life insurance characterized by its flexible premiums, face amounts and unbundled pricing structure. Universal life can build cash value, which earns an interest rate that may adjust periodically, but is usually guaranteed not to fall below a certain percentage.

Home and auto insurance policies have limits to how much will be covered.  If faced with paying claims that are beyond what your insurance policy covers, an umbrella policy kicks in and provides you with additional protection. Whether you're a homeowner or drive a car, motorcycle, boat, RV or ATV, an umbrella policy should be considered.

Dannenhauer Insurance Agency works with many insurance companies who offer affordable umbrella policies. Contact us today to find out how we can help you.

Liability Insurance Starts When the Others Stop

Once the liability limits are exhausted on your home, auto, or other policy, your umbrella policy takes over and provides a second layer of protection of at least $1,000,000. Higher limits may also be available.

Insurance for classic cars is a bit more involved than the average auto policy, and is almost always based on the agreed value of the vehicle. Agreed Value means the provider will pay you the full (agreed to) amount in the event of a covered loss, less any applicable deductible.  This type of coverage is much better than “actual cash value” or “stated value” that you may get with some companies.

Dannenhauer Insurance works with Hagerty,an industry leader in classic and collector automobiles.
